After more than 50 years working in the Australian HVAC&R industry, Bob Ellis, F.AIRAH, has announced his retirement.

Ellis began his career in 1967 as an apprentice fitter and turner/toolmaker at General Motors Holden’s Woodville plant. While completing his apprenticeship, he studied mechanical engineering part-time at SAIT (now UniSA).

During his career, Ellis worked in a range of engineering and management roles for businesses including White Engineering, SA Cold Storage, and, since 1996, Meinhardt SA. He has been an active AIRAH member since 1988 and is also a member of ASHRAE.

Colin Allison, M.AIRAH, from AIRAH’s SA Division Committee, says Ellis was a pleasure to work with.

“I found him to be an excellent, caring manager who understood people and what motivates them,” Allison says. “He treated everybody with decency and respect.”

Retirement will allow Ellis to continue to cook meals for people experiencing homelessness in Adelaide, as well as being involved in basketball competitions, remaining active in the local church community, and spending time with his wife Anne, as well as their two children and four grandchildren.
