AIRAH has released a new and improved version of its website FairAir, offering independent advice for residential air conditioning.

Already well known within the industry, and referenced by consumer groups such as CHOICE, FairAir has been revamped and updated to support residents and HVAC&R technicians in selecting suitable equipment for residential cooling and heating.

AIRAH CEO Tony Gleeson, M.AIRAH, says navigating the abundance of residential air conditioning equipment on the market can be intimidating for those who aren’t very well informed about HVAC – and even those who are.

“FairAir is an important consumer tool for calculating residential cooling and heating options in Australia, helping to determine the most energy-efficient and suitable products for the home,” he says.

The new website has been streamlined to make navigation easier, and the calculators have been updated to a more modern format. The calculators help determine the cooling and heating loads in a home, as well as maximum allowable noise level for each installation, and the likely energy costs for different units.

AIRAH’s Professional Development Manager Brendan Pejkovic says FairAir offers free and unbiased information to help both consumers and HVAC&R professionals find the best home air conditioning options and products.

“It’s designed to determine the most energy-efficient and suitable options for heating and cooling single and multi-room units in Australia,” he says.

The site also includes helpful tips on reducing the cooling load of a room and energy efficiency, installation and maintenance. AIRAH has prepared a short video tutorial on how to use FairAir effectively.

Gleeson believes the residential sector has traditionally lagged behind other areas of the built environment, such as commercial buildings, when it comes to focusing on sustainability and energy efficiency.

He says that since the pandemic began and people are spending more time at home, many residents are starting to focus on saving energy and keeping down costs.

“More than ever, we’re looking for our homes to provide comfort, health, and productivity,” he says.

“We hope FairAir can form part of a suite of tools home dwellers can use to better inform their air conditioning purchasing decisions.”
