The Property Council of Australia has announced that Chief Executive Ken Morrison will leave the organisation in December after eight years in the role to pursue other career opportunities.

Morrison has served as Chief Executive of the Property Council of Australia since 2014. He has spent a collective 25 years in the organisation, having previously served as Chief Operating Officer and NSW Executive Director. Morrison was also previously the CEO of the Tourism and Transport Forum.

Property Council National President David Harrison has paid tribute to Morrison’s contribution to the industry and to Australian public policy.

“He has helped the industry see itself differently, led our advocacy efforts across a host of issues and navigated the organisation through the pandemic,” Harrison says of Morrison.

“Ken is a leading policy thinker in cities, planning, sustainability and tax – one who knows how to influence governments to get outcomes. In particular, the Property Council’s leadership through the depths of the pandemic was outstanding and highly appreciated by members.

“One of the legacies Ken leaves is the industry’s substantial focus on gender and other forms of diversity. While there is still much work to do, this has begun a deep transformation, which is having a real impact.

“Ken leaves the Property Council in a very strong position: a highly influential organisation, record membership support, and a clear strategy in place.”

Morrison is seeking fresh challenges.

“It has been a special privilege to lead this organisation, but the time is right for me to step away and pursue other opportunities,” Morrison says.

“I’m incredibly proud of the work of the Property Council and the powerful and positive impact we have had on the industry and the community.

“It has been immensely rewarding to make a contribution to the policies which help shape our cities and drive our economy. I hope to continue to be able to play a role in our national life in the future.

“My heartfelt thanks to our board, executive and staff team present and past, as well as the great many members who I have learnt so much from over the years.”

Morrison will finish at the end of 2022. A search process for his successor has now commenced.
